HIFF 34 Recap
We’re finally done with HIFF 34 and what an experience!
I’m working on a report as much for myself as for the executive staff, and it’s really been an eye opening experience for me. The production behind the scenes of a Film Festival really is quite a big deal, and one I believe more independent filmmakers should experience. You get a front row seat to how to and how not to act with the festival organizers, and don’t realize the influence they can have with distributors and media that can make or break your future opportunities.
Generally non-profit, always understaffed, and dependent on an army of volunteers, a film festival is a great training ground for aspiring filmmakers due to the exposure you can get to veteran filmmakers and your hard work can get you noticed in order to get your foot in the door, as I’ve been making mental notes of all the young staffers working for us for a little more than a free lunch and the opportunity to see a couple films, and there’s been a couple that will be on the top of my list to call when the next project comes up, and a couple that I’ll remember should their resume comes across my desk.
I undoubtedly couldn’t have done my job without all the hard working volunteers, and now have a greater appreciation for festival staffers, many whom I’ve known socially for years, but finally got the opportunity to work side by side with and really got to know.
Mahalo HIFF!
