PANMUNJEOM - JOINT SECURITY AREA

A unique area within the Demilitarized Zone established by the Armistice between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) and The Republic of Korea (South Korea), the Joint Security Area was built the UN as neutral ground between the two countries to hold negotiations, bisected by the Military Demarcation Line, and is the closet location Western citizens can view North Korea.

As a sensitive military area, filming is prohibited within the DMZ, however a mock-up of the UN Conference Buildings (UNCMAC) and Panmon Hall (DPRK) are available at the KOFIC Namyangju Studios outside of Seoul in Yangsuri.
